The Greyhounds face Sunnyvale in a Class 4A girls basketball state semifinal Friday afternoon at the Alamodome.The Boerne Greyhounds and the Sunnyvale Lady Raiders are facing off in a Texas Class 4A girls basketball state semifinal Friday afternoon at the Alamodome in San Antonio. With the Greyhounds playing in the state tournament, Boerne High School granted a 12:35 p.m. early release Friday so students and staff could travel to the Alamodome for the game.Boerne's Averi Aaron hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 17 with under two minutes left, but Sunnyvale's Micah Russell banked a deep 3-pointer from the top of the key to help the Lady Raiders retake the lead heading into the break.
Russell leads all scorers with 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Boerne's Jenna Ruede has a team-high eight points on 3-of-3 shooting, including 2 of 2 from beyond the arc.Sunnyvale leads Boerne 17-15 midway through the second quarter, thanks in part to hitting 4 of 8 from beyond the arc. Boerne is 3 of 10 from behind the 3-point line.Sunnyvale holds an 11-10 lead after the first quarter, and the Lady Raiders are led by eight points from Micah Russell.
