Family members, civil rights activists, politicians and celebrities remember George Floyd as a 'powerful' man at a memorial service amid calls for justice and plans for major demonstrations. Follow live.

As part of the memorial, prominent civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton said that George Floyd's story was the story of black people in America.

Reverend Sharpton said the reason black people couldn't be who they dreamed of being is because "you had your knee on our necks." He added: "Get your knee off of our necks!" Reverend Sharpton was one of many civil rights activists at the memorial, and he called for justice to be served for Mr Floyd's death."He did not die of common health conditions. He died of a common American criminal justice malfunction. He died because there has not been the corrective behavior that has taught this country that if you commit a crime, it does not matter if you wear blue jeans or a blue uniform you must pay for the crime you commit.

Donald Trump's walk from the White House to St John's Church, where he stood for a photo with a bible, was called out by Reverend Sharpton. "We cannot use bibles as a prop. For those that have agendas that are not about justice, this family will not let you use George as a prop," he said.
