the Prime Minister announced the GovernmentIt was actually a projected surplus, but the sharp economic downturn brought on by the coronavirus pandemic has obviously made that an impossibility.as the economic effects of COVID-19 became clear, and Labor wasted no time on Budget Day to bring it up again in Question Time, bringing a mug emblazoned with the slogan into the House of Representatives and asking the question a couple of times.
Scott Morrison described the mug stunt as "juvenile tactics" and said the Opposition shouldn't be making light of the situation. "Today is a very serious day for Australia, because in the midst of this COVID-19 recession, there is the need for the continuing response the Government has been leading, not only to cushion the blow of this terrible recession that is global in nature, but as we continue to recover what has been lost, to build again for the future.
"Mr Speaker, as we entered into this crisis, we have brought the budget back into balance. We have worked together with the Australian businesses of this country to ensure 1.5 million jobs have been created under the economic policies of a Government that had brought the budget back into balance so we could deal with the crisis as it hit.
"Those opposite, Mr Speaker, may want to make sneering remarks and jokes about this, but not this Government. This Government has a plan to deal with it, and Australians know that, Mr Speaker, because they saw us work over six successive years."
