Drivers are facing rush hour queues of eight miles following an earlier crash on the
. One lane of traffic is currently closed on the clockwise carriageway between junction 16 for Pendlebury and 17 for Prestwich and Whitefield. Two lanes were initially closed off. Recovery work is ongoing in the fourth lane, National Highways says. Traffic is now tailing back as far as junction nine, at Trafford Park. A spokesperson for National Highways North West wrote on Twitter: "Lane 4 remains CLOSED on the M60 clockwise between J16 and J17 near Bury for clear up work following a multi vehicle collision.There are currently delays of 60 mins and approx eight miles of congestion back to J9." It follows a crash involving a car and a van at around 4.20pm.
North West Motorway Police confirmed the incident was a damage-only collision, with no injuries reported. Traffic is also slow on the M62, anticlockwise M60 and M61 approaching the scene.
