The final of the Montreal Masters 1000 tournament features rising Australian talent Alexei Popyrin and tempestuous Russian Andrey Rublev.
Our tennis scribe Marc McGowan is casting his expert eye over this match, and has this to say early in the proceedings:
Popyrin was receiving but won the first game of the match to love. It’s the perfect start for him, especially given Rublev’s tendency for explosive temper tirades. For what it’s worth, I’d be playing it cool ATM; just try and bank some early games and let Rublev worry about Rublev.This is Australian Alexei Popyrin’s first time in the final of a prestigious Masters 1000 event, whereas his opponent Rublev is gunning to become the first player this year to win two of these events.Rublev to serve first.He was introduced to the crowd to warm applause, as was Rublev.
