MORNING BRIEFING: NSW Police announce a $1 million reward for information about a 1998 house fire which killed a 13-year-old boy, and there are calls for a new monument to honour Indigenous woman Patyegarang.

Police are offering a $1 million reward for information about a fatal house fire in the inner-Sydney suburb of Waterloo two decades ago.

No-one has ever been charged over the blaze, which is now being re-investigated for the Homicide Squad, with the reward for information increased from $100,000 to assist in the probe.Indigenous woman Patyegarang was the first interpreter of the Gadigal language. The Indigenous woman's cultural exchanges with First Fleet officer William Dawes were vital to the survival of the Gadigal language.
