Intensive care nurses will protest this morning at Westmead Hospital in Sydney's west due to staffing issues.

NSWNMA Acting General Secretary Shaye Candish said staff and patient safety was being compromised and called on the state government for immediate support. "The government needs to take action to urgently support nurses and midwives in the biggest health crisis we've ever faced."The mandatory RAT reporting system was introduced last week but penalties start from today.

People were given a week's grace to familiarise themselves with the system but penalties start from today."If we didn't put a fine on it, then people would say you're not taking it seriously," he said.

😉

I would not like to be a patient, esp in ICU, with nurses who have had to work ridiculously long hours. Tired people make mistakes, which can be fatal in a hospital.

Shame on Morrison, Hunt and Hazzard. Covid prevents mass demonstrations in front of parliament buildings and electoral offices, but we can send a message in many other ways to support our overworked, exhausted health workers. The health of all of us is at stake.

CallTheElectionDickhead

Come on ABC, that so not your style. ICU Nurses would never never never walk out leaving pts unattended, that just does not happen, never will happen, so you should bloody well apologise for such a grossly offensive misleading headline. Shameless, disgusting Journalism.

I stand with nurses and all health care workers. This shit show has gone on long enough.

Dom_Perrottet

I am a pacifist but my goodness these LNP politicians are testing my patience. How can they keep saying all is fine, & think that saying “Thank you” to all our fabulous, overworked nurses and teachers is enough?Platitudes can never replace action. Do something, you lazy bastards!

SOLIDARITY NURSES! 👏👏👏 It's apalling that your employers gave you no other choice. UnionStrong

beneltham Correct sentiment. Incorrect headline. It insinuates that nurses have abandoned their patients, which they would not. The nurses protested against the current situation, which the body of the article details (minimally) but they likely did this during their off-duty time.

Globalbiosec About time and may there be more. We health workers are our own worst enemies. The situation is catastrophic and we need capable management. Hard to see where this will come from in this age of sycophantic psychopaths

Didn't anyone bother to tell them that Domicron expects them to work themselves into the ground!

Response of ScottytheFailure to nurses walking out is to discount OS student nurses coming to Oz, as if it's a big favour to repay a govt charge on arrival.

The government was warned a good 6 months ago that they were struggling...

GrisStephan Solidarity 💕 It’s very, very bad if nurses walk out

👍👍👍👍👍

ToshiAkima Good. It’s NOT SAFE & it’s NOT right! No one signed up to be drowned in sick & dying deliberately harmed by own Govt’s & Unions choosing to mass infect the pop by denying simple & effective Public Health measures. Defending economic & political interests ahead of Publics Health!

Globalbiosec I support them 💯 Dom_Perrottet must resign LetItRipDom

This exactly what all nurses should do. They have to send a Powerful message to these rat bag Liberal governments. ScottMorrisonMP Dom_Perrottet The constant lies need to stop. Everything is not fine. Let the Libs work in the hospitals!

emergency_CNS Those nurses have my full support. NSW govt has been lying about the situation in health care

Oh boy!!! 🙏

Imagine how bad things must be for them to walk out 😱. Onya Dom.

I can see more of this happening around Australia. Australia's military should be helping out in the hospitals.

The PM for NSW, Premier for Australia have to come out and own up to their 'moronic' ideology!

I am so f’ing pleased they finally drew the line in the sand…..

It’s time for that famous “Aussie battler” spirit to stand up to the Liberal Party. We are not Britain. We are not America. We are in fact part of the Australasian region, where COVID mitigation is the norm!

SageAU Good for them, making the management of Omicron political has caused nothing but fear and chaos. The complete disregard of political decisions on people is appalling, callous and negligent.

Was Morrison’s presser this morning timed to distract from this? I get more and more cynical everyday. l totally support nurses, all day, every day.

Is it any wonder?

Let the unvacinated back, close the testing stations and put the people working in the testing stations in the hospitals. Problem solved. Your welcome. Ps. Stop getting tested.

Problem long before covid.

WeekOnWednesday rachelbaxendale

😱 these poor nurses If this is the only way the message gets through to Dom and Co that more needs to be done than we are screwed. Good start will be closing churches were thousands upon thousands congregate (party even)

Why has ABC been interviewing nurses rather than cafe owners about the impact of covid? ABC is now influenced by LNP/Murdoch and no longer our ABC auspol MorrisonNotOnOurSide ScottyThePathologicalLiar

But Domicron said we are “standing tall” and in “good shape” living with covid. covidnsw

Hang in there the Whole County (except those that voted for the LNP and there leaders) have your back. 🕊💜

Good. There needs to be more of it to force the government to acknowledge the difficult truth.

Health First and Staying Safe.

I stand with the nurses!

Where’s Josh Frydenberg, to call this nurses “militants” - what a totally predictable debacle.

They should all put on a hi vis vest jump in a truck and toot the horn

This is command failure of the Hospitals leadership and especially the Director Of Nursing for not having a healthy relationship with the ANMF.

guytaur Such a protest is incredibly rare for dedicated nursing staff. They are at the end of their tether. Shame on you, Domicron.

This needs to be a nationwide walkout.

Pity they sacked hundreds for not taking a flu jab.

Yeh! Just walk out! Leave the scene! The Government has treated you like shit so GO!

Send in the black clad masked men with dogs

Poor people there

I hope it's one of many. Nurses aren't virus fodder & Perrottet should resign. Today.

Support them

More mockdown

rpcounat Can someone tell BreakfastNews

Oh I wonder how nobody in government could have predicted this.

Let me guess, Dom will impose a $5000 fine for nurses who walk out? Seems to be the answer to everything while he Lets It Rip.
