The federal government has released its Employment White Paper after a year-long consultation that will pave the way for future jobs and skills in Australia, while the ASX is lower after Wall Street fell on Friday. Follow live.

"We have a very fast changing economy, and we need to make sure that our education and training providers are fit for purpose. and the white paper has highlighted that and has added extra investment to what is already a very significant allocation of investment under the National Skills Agreement ... to realise our ambitions to make sure that the vet sector is exactly that, fit for purpose.

"But the something is happening here too. As you know that the Jobs and Skills Summit, we announced 180,000 fee-free bed and take places. "Now this is only the third time since the Second World War that a national government has set out a vision for work like this," he says.
