Blake Taaffe has sent a major scare through the Souths camp just 24 hours before the team's season-opener against the Broncos. 😮 9WWOS NRL

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have been dealt a major scare on the eve of their season-opener against the Brisbane Broncos, with fullback Blake Taaffe unable to complete the team's captain's run.

Taaffe limped off the training track in Redfern after rolling his ankle during the captain's run, prompting fears that he would not be fit to take on the Broncos on Friday night. However, Souths coach Jason Demetriou allayed the fears of Souths fans on Thursday, indicating that the 22-year-old, who is filling in for the suspended Latrell Mitchell, would be right to go.

"These things happen at training, it's the captain's run, he's done a lot of work the last two weeks to get ready for this game, so there was no need to push him on," Demetriou told theTaaffe enjoyed a fine season last year after stepping in for Mitchell following the Souths star's suspension for his brutal hit on Joseph Manu.

The stand-in No.1 made eight appearances for South Sydney in 2021, with his side winning seven of those matches.
