The NSW government says parts of the health network are now in a position to resume elective surgery but that's not the case for metropolitan public hospitals yet.
Most students will be back in NSW classrooms today.
Teachers and secondary students will need to wear masks indoors. For primary students, masks are a recommendation.A positive test result will require them to isolate for seven days.Students with symptoms, however, are still advised to stay home.Brad Hazzard said elective surgery would only resume in public facilities that had the capacity.
They will resume at 75 per cent capacity in private hospitals and 75 per cent of pre-pandemic levels at public hospitals in regional and rural NSW. "We recognise the effect these necessary restrictions have had on the lives of people requiring non-urgent elective surgery and I want to assure them we will be doing everything possible to return to full capacity in all of our hospitals as soon as possible," he said.
Communities in the Hunter, Illawarra and Wagga Wagga regions will be the first to receive the tests through the rollout delivered by the Ethnic Communities' Councils of NSW.
