The death of the Queen in her Scottish home of Balmoral triggered the launch of Operation Unicorn, which covers not only how news of Her Majesty's passing was broken to the government and the public, but also how her long farewell will proceed.
There were two plans in place - "Operation London Bridge" if Queen Elizabeth died in England, and "Operation Unicorn" if the sad event took place in Balmoral. Ahead of the public announcements, Operation Unicorn saw Prime Minister Liz Truss informed that "London Bridge is down" - code for the Queen's passing.Following the public unveiling of the Queen's death, Operation Unicorn indicates she is likely to lie in state in Holyrood House, the palace in Edinburgh.The coffin is then likely to be flown to Buckingham Palace in London, ahead of the official funeral.
The ceremonial procession of the Queen through London is set for five days after her death, while the funeral on the whole is expected to cover 10 days.
