J.D. Vance blamed illegal immigration for driving up property prices in the United States during the Biden administration. Illegal immigration, especially on the southern border, has soared in the past three years, and both Republicans and Democrats have talked tough on cracking down on numbers. Vance said “25 million illegal aliens is one of the most significant drivers of home prices”.
Vance didn’t say where he got this number from – or give a timeframe – but this is far higher than the number of encounters with migrants recorded by border officials under the Biden administration. Since January 2021, there have been more than 10 million encounters at the US borders, numbers which have risen to record levels. He was asked how a Republican presidency would help ease the housing crisis, policies that include reduced regulation and tax breaks.
