Eddie Jones is never short of a quote or two heading into a tournament. But now he appears to be fully excited ahead of his fourth World Cup campaign.

“We are ready to go, mate. We’re like an F1 car now, a fast one at the start of the grid," he said at the press conference to announce the team to face Georgia."There’s been a really good progression. We went through a period where we had to almost de-structure the team to get ourselves in the position where we think we can win the World Cup.“In the latter part of the Rugby Championship and the France game here, the team were really starting to come together.

"It would be unfair for me to say that I knew where the team were going to end up because we are just starting to understand what our strengths are as a team and to play to those.Jones said part of that style will revolve around a big pack to account for the more intense periods of play. “We’ve seen the intensity of the game really increase. The ball-in-play time, particularly against the bigger countries like France and South Africa, is really low but the periods of play are so intense you can’t afford to make a mistake in that period, which suits a big forward pack like ours.

"I would never have dreamt saying as the coach of Australia that we have got a huge pack that could dominate the World Cup, but we have. We intend to use that to our advantage."
