A Sydney court rules in favour of Local Government Minister Ron Hoenig allowing him to suspend councillors and appoint an administrator from September 5.

Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun has until Thursday to respond to the minister's notice.Liverpool City Council has lost its legal challenge to stop a public inquiry into its operations after allegations of "maladministration and/or corruption".

Justice John Robson said the minister could exercise his powers from Thursday, September 5, including suspending council's elected representatives and appointing an administrator — giving the council a chance to review its options for appeal.that looked into the council's hiring practices, but also allegedly identified "serious concerns about widespread dysfunction and maladministration".

"Justice Robson’s judgement is clear that the advice given to the Minister about the serious concerns at Council was reasonable," Mr Hoenig said in a statement.
