Liverpool have not forgotten about Andre as Fluminense midfielder prepares for huge game with January transfer in focus
It's the question that was nagging away at Liverpool supporters during the closing weeks of the summer transfer window.
READ MORE: The simple reason why UEFA won't allow Anfield to hold Euro 2028 games and new Everton stadium willWorth remembering is how the Reds reached this position. Earlier in the summer, the main aim was to remould the dynamic of the midfield by bringing in first Alexis Mac Allister and then Dominik Szoboszlai, both in their early 20s and capable of playing in several engine-room roles. A long-term replacement for Fabinho was on the radar, but not a priority.
Subsequent events have proven it a wise move from the Reds, with Fluminense now preparing for a final against Boca Juniors early next month as they seek a first triumph in the competition's 63-year history. Andre has continued to appear regularly in the Brazilian domestic league, although he has been rested for the occasional game in recent weeks with the Libertadores understandably assuming priority.
"Saying this first hand, we didn't receive a proposal for him, only surveys for Andre. We chose not to sell him because we believed that we would reach the final stages of the Libertadores. It was a decision made with sporting criteria."
