Lita became the first female artist and Liverpudlian to have a number one hit
It's now been over 70 years since "Liverpool's first popstar" skyrocketed to fame and made history in the city and beyond.
Close friend and author Mark Willerton met Lita over 30 years ago and is continuing to keep Lita's legacy alive through a new memoir. As part of the Liverpool ECHO's How It Used To Be series, we spoke to Mark, from Lincolnshire, about Lita's success and her inspiring story. Mark met Lita back in 1993, but admits she wasn't initially one of his favourite artists. He said: "I do collect records and I've collected records since I was about 10 years old of the 50s and 60s - and Lita wasn't actually a favourite of mine.
"But off stage she was very ordinary, she just wore jeans and a jumper, no makeup, very natural. When you went round her house, she always had a homecooked meal ready when you visited her and she used to bring in a tray with a tea cosy on it. She was very easy to talk to and she had a good memory for all of her career."
"For five years running she claimed that sort of honour. When she became famous, in those days, London was the place to be so she immediately left Liverpool to go to London, although she did keep going back to Liverpool because she often appeared at the Liverpool Empire and she did a summer season at Southport.
