Chris Kavanagh has been appointed referee for Nottingham Forest’s trip to Liverpool in the Premier League just days after being accused of making a huge mistake in the draw between Chelsea and Arsenal.
Alan Shearer criticised Kavanagh for failing to give Arsenal a penalty when Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez clattered into Gunners striker Gabriel Jesus in the box during the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge. Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer described it as a “terrible challenge”. "What is key for me is that he catches him in the head. Look, he goes right through him here. It's a terrible challenge.
