In the US capital Washington DC, people and businesses “live with the virus”, says The Australian’s Washington correspondent Adam Creighton.
The city has a population of just 700,000, less than 3 per cent the size of Australia. However, over 1,100 people have died as a result of COVID-19 – more than the total to date in Australia.
Citizens in Washington have been infected with the virus at almost four times the rate of Australians, with one in 13 people having been infected compared to Australia’s one in 50.
