Cheney, who once worked side-by-side with McCarthy in GOP leadership, posted veiled criticism against the newly-elected House speaker.
GOP control of the House of Representatives got off to a tumultuous start this week after a group of roughly 20opposed McCarthy's speakership bid, demanding changes that would weaken the speaker's authority to a House rules package.
He thanked the former president for his help, telling reporters early Saturday morning:"I want to especially thank President Trump. I don't think anybody should doubt his influence." These remarks sparked criticism from Cheney, who has rejected Trump's unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election, and has largely been ostracized from the GOP over her Trump criticisms.
