Prime Minister kicks off hectic week following Queen’s funeral with trip to New York for UN General AssemblyWestern allies must help end Vladimir Putin’s “economic blackmail” by cutting their dependence on Russian energy,The Prime Minister arrived in New York last night for the annual United Nations General Assembly , where she will meet with world leaders including US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Ms Truss will seek to use her first overseas trip as PM to press her counterparts not to backslide in their support for Ukraine, warning that the entire world suffers when a regime like Putin’s is allowed to “bully and blackmail its neighbours”, her spokesman said. In a statement ahead of the assembly, the Prime Minister said: “By turning off the taps of Nord Stream gas pipeline, Putin has consigned millions of people in Europe to a colder and more difficult winter.
“Too many lives – in Ukraine, in Europe and around the world – are being manipulated by a dependence on Russian energy.
