Merseyside was absent from the National Fish & Chips Awards despite boasting some of the best you can buy anywhere in the country

Liverpool chippies have confidently declared they offer some of the best food in the country despite a recent award snub.

Categories included Drywite Young Fish Frier of the Year, Restaurant of the Year and Takeaway of the Year and more but despite the list of possibilities Merseyside's award-winning venues will have to wait until next year for a chance at glory.READ MORE: Man escaped from van on his way to Altcourse prison

On the topic of the recent snub, it didn't bother Yanni's too much, with owner Sandra Lawton telling the ECHO: "We don't mind. We know we sell some of the best food around and people love it. We have awards already and we love what we do." Yanni's has queues out the door most lunchtimes thanks to its golden fish and massive selection of classic chippie favourites.

Helen said: "We serve out award-winning chips every day. We are one of the few fish and chip shops that still pin bone and fillet our fresh fish delivered daily from Peterhead in Scotland. Always supplying fresh is what makes us stand out. We have a large Liverpool fan base for our food, and we're ecstatic that we found a home in Liverpool."
