The leader of Hyndburn Council has been voted out
The first council to declare on Friday was Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, which remained Labour controlled with the party winning two seats off of the Lib Dems and Tories. On Hyndburn Borough Council, the incumbent leader Miles Parkinson has been voted out. He remained as leader after leaving Labour through support from the Tory group.
For some, they are all-out elections, where every councillor is voted in. Others are electing one third of councillors, which they do on a rotating one year basis. Early local elections results in England have seen Labour and the Liberal Democrats gain council seats at the expense of the Conservatives. More than 8,000 council seats are up for grabs on 230 councils as well as four mayors.
