Carnegie Hero Fund CommissionVictor Villanueva, 30, of New Braunfels and Casandra Joann Kendrick, 22, of Seguin,The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission awards the Carnegie Medal to people in the United States and Canada who risked their lives to save others. It is considered North America's highest civilian honor for heroism.

On June 13, 2021, Villanueva took his three sons, aged 9, 6, and 5, on a fishing trip in nearby Seguin.
