A Libyan man charged with making the bomb used in the Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people 34 years ago has reportedly been arrested in the US.
al-Megrahi was convicted of the bombing in 2001 after standing trial at a specially convened Scottish court hearing held at a former US base in the Netherlands. He was given a life sentence but released on compassionate grounds in 2009 after being diagnosed with cancer, and died in Libya in 2012. "Scottish prosecutors and police, working with UK government and US colleagues, will continue to pursue this investigation, with the sole aim of bringing those who acted along with Al Megrahi to justice."
American prosecutors have charged him with "destruction of an aircraft resulting in death" and "destruction of a vehicle by means of an explosive resulting in death". The US took a particular interest in prosecuting those behind the bombing as 270 killed, 190 were Americans on the plane.
