Logan Sargeant might actually be America's next Formula 1 driver.
Colton Herta's pursuit of a seat on the F1 grid may have come to an unceremonious close this week, but an American could still find their way to Formula 1 in 2023. Logan Sargeant, a Formula 2 driver in the Williams development system, is now reportedly in frame for a potential seat with the Williams team as early as next season.
If Sargeant is to get his name into the conversation, he'll have to clear the same hurdle as Herta by securing a super license. Fortunately for Sargeant, the point system heavily skewed toward the Formula 2 and Formula 3 ladder has already awarded him 20 points for finishing third in the 2020 F3 season.
Sargeant, in year four of his trip through the European ladder, has not been seen as a strong prospect throughout his three-year trip through F3. However, improvements through a competent rookie season of F2 racing have put him in position to potentially secure a license and hit F1's qualification standards to race in 2023. Notably, he is more than 100 points behind
in the 2022 F2 championship; Drugovich is not expected to be in contention for any F1 seat in 2023 and has already signed on as a development and practice driver for Aston Martin Racing instead.
