Sadiq Khan has activated the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol for the third time this winter as temperatures plummet to -6C. It follows the extension of a level-two cold weather warning by England's health protection authority, which urges people to look after those most vulnerable.
With temperatures set to drop as low as -6C in the south and east of England, emergency cold measures have been activated by the mayor of London.
The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol ensures that councils and charities across London open emergency accommodation for homeless people when temperatures drop below freezing.
