In contrast to its heritage-rich big sister in Hyde Park, the £1000 a night Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is cheekier and more focused on fun.

MO Mayfair also has a fittingly stylish bar , and 14-seat Dosa – a chef’s-table-style private room that doesn’t have to be a book-out proposition ; Dosa is also operated by Back. The hotel even has an official fan, created by House of Vivienne Westwood, which has a boutique across the road. The breakfast menu is just as seductive, with delicacies like a matcha, chia and oat cup, plus cruffles with fresh berries.
Originally built as an exclusive gentleman’s club in 1889, the building became a hotel in 1902, quickly proving a dominant five-star presence that played in the same space as The Ritz London, The Lanesborough, The Connaught, The Savoy and of course, Claridge’s. It has been a Mandarin Oriental since May 2000.
All rooms at the MO Hyde Park boast a lovely London view, but nothing quite like the rooftop penthouse.
