A statue of a noted slaveholder has been removed from the streets of London after a city-wide review of statues.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan unveiled a new commission to improve the diversity of London's landmarks - citing those with links to slavery "should be taken down".

The statue of Robert Milligan - a merchant and slave-factor in London's West India Docks - was the subject of anti-racism vandalism before it was removed. His was the second statue to be removed in Britain after anti-racism protesters in Bristol tore down a statue of slave trader Edward Colston.
