Up to 40 per cent of people who contract COVID-19 experience lingering symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath and brain fog.

New research from RMIT University in Melbourne says Australia is lagging behind in how it deals with the impact of long COVID.

“This wasn't, at that point in time, anything that was formally acknowledged by any of my doctors, and it wasn't until I was it really until I was probably more 5, 6 months down the trail of being completely housebound - slash - bed-couch-bound that they would actually acknowledge that it was long COVID."

In Australia, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in more than 11 million confirmed cases since the outbreak began in 2020. But according to Professor Zheng, public awareness is still a major barrier. She says the confusion over what long COVID looks like and how it's defined is not only a problem for the general public.

But recommendations like exercise, regulating mental health, and eating anti-inflammatory diets might look different in different communities.

‘Biggest shakeup in immigration compliance’: Labor govt cracking down visa exploitation‘Biggest shakeup in immigration compliance’: Labor govt cracking down visa exploitationA crackdown on criminals exploiting the visa system has been unveiled by the federal government. Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil says the crackdown will be the 'biggest shake-up in immigration compliance' in decades. The Home Affairs Minister seized on the review and accused Peter Dutton of turning a blind eye to migration abuses when he was in charge. “We’ve got a range of different problems; one of them is that the migration system essentially is full of ways that people can exploit the system to come down to Australia or stay in Australia when they’re not really meant to be here,” Ms O’Neil told Sky News Australia. “This problem has been used to facilitate some of the worst crimes that we know of. “Our government is going to shakeup immigration compliance in a really fundamental way.”
