The attacks began on June 30.

If you are planning on heading off the beach for the summer, you might just want to go ahead and skip this article.

Because, at least along the beaches of Long Island, there have been a spree of shark attacks across the past two weeks. According to multiple reports, none of the attacks have been fatal, but there have been at least five recorded cases in that span.It all started back on June 30 when a 37-year-old swimmer was bitten on the right foot off Jones Beach.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said the sharks are obviously hanging closer to the shore, and that swimmers may be dealing “something of a new normal.” He encouraged swimmers to stay out of the water if lifeguards are not present.he also suggested swimmers stay out of the water near dawn and dusk, not wear shiny jewelry and to not go into the water if they are bleeding.

Meanwhile, ABC reported Nassau and Suffolk County beaches are being patrolled by boat, helicopter and drone amid the rash of attacks. Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
