The Longhorns' most experienced offensive lineman is done after an ACL tear.

Guard Junior Angilau was a fifth-year player with a wealth of experience who could be replaced by a sophomore or even a true freshman.AUSTIN — Coach Steve Sarkisian’s task got a whole lot harder this past weekend.

“That’s the game, you know, and that's why you gotta continue to build depth so we have other guys to step up and play,” Sarkisian said following Monday’s practice. I hate it for them. I feel for those guys, who both had really good offseasons, to get ready for the season. My prayers go out to them and them getting better and getting healthy and coming back stronger than ever.Angilau would have entered this season as Texas’ most-experienced lineman with 34 career starts.

Third-year center Jake Majors remains locked into his role after starting every game in the middle last season. Fifth-year tackle Christian Jones was also an every-week starter at left tackle last year, but his middling performance has left the door open for others, like five-star freshman Kelvin Banks Jr. and redshirt sophomore Andrej Karic.

Alabama transfer receiver Agiye Hall would’ve been a strong candidate to take some of Neyor’s targets. But last week, Texas placed Hall on an indefinite suspension following his arrest for misdemeanor criminal mischief, further thinning a group that can’t afford to lose more talent. Behind Worthy, Whittington and Milton, Texas will need some unproven underclassmen and one snake-bitten redshirt sophomore to seize this opportunity.
