Marvin Lewis, head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals from 2003 to 2018, said he doesn’t plan to join Brian Flores’ racial discrimination class-action lawsuit against the NFL.
Flores, 40, who finished last season as the head coach of the Dolphins by winning eight of nine games and barely missed the playoffs, hasn’t been offered a new position after being fired in January. . Ray “Sugar Bear” Hamilton, a former player who spent nearly three decades in the NFL as a position coach, said he supports Flores but hasn’t joined the lawsuit because he doesn’t feel he has a case.
If a judge approves the class-action status Flores is seeking, members of the proposed class–retired and active Black head coaches, general managers, offensive coordinators, defensive coordinators and quarterbacks coaches–will automatically become plaintiffs. Legal experts said such certification can take months, assuming the case is not dismissed, arbitrated or settled before then.
