Theatergoers can enjoy an update of Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure,” a new staging of the Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and a smorgasbord of edgy, indie productions at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival

Hello and welcome to this week’s update of the Culture Guide, our curated rundown of where to find Southern California’s most promising cultural happenings this weekend and beyond. I’m listings coordinator Matt Cooper. Let’s get this party started.

Theatergoers can enjoy an update of Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure,” a new staging of the Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and a veritable smorgasbord of edgy, indie productions at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival. Or get more yuks for your bucks with stand-up shows featuring Iliza Shlesinger and Tom Arnold.

Movie fans, scope out the UCLA Film & Television Archive’s “Imagining Indigenous Cinema” series, the return of the Los Angeles Conservancy’s “Last Remaining Seats” series, the fan convention “Monsterpalooza” in Pasadena and the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, which continues through the weekend.

For classical music aficionados, Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Phil play Mozart, L.A. Opera’s “Otello” wraps its run, the venerable Monday Evening Concerts series continues and the mighty Ojai Music Festival returns, just a little jog up the coast. Wanna rock out? Check out the “Re:Set Los Angeles” festival at the Rose Bowl, the EDM extravaganza “Paradise in the Park” in downtown, the Musco Center’s annual “Heartbeat of Mexico” and the return of the free outdoor summer concert series Grand Performances. Or if you’d rather watch others shake a leg, check out Los Angeles Ballet in Westwood and youth dance group the Wooden Floor in Irvine.
