Loud wails and angry shouting as Chinese student sentenced over flatmate's murder
A Chinese student has been sentenced to 18 years in jail for murdering his flatmate and dumping her body in bushland north of Sydney.The court heard he lured her from her room by switching off power in their homeShuo Dong, 21, had pleaded guilty to murdering Qi Yu two years ago at the house they shared at Campsie in Sydney's south west.
Loud wails and angry shouting could be heard coming from the courtroom after the sentence was announced. "In the light of his refusal to disclose how and why he killed Ms Yu, he doesn't demonstrate acceptance of his crime which is an essential aspect of remorse," he said.Shuo Dong was jailed for 18 years for the murder of Qi Yu.
Acting Justice Hidden said, given this, he was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the murder was premeditated.
