FA charge watfordfc midfielder with spitting at an opponent

Midfielder Imran Louza has been charged by the FA with spitting at an opponent during Watford’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea at Vicarage Road last week. The Morocco international was a 56th-minute substitute for the Hornets, and it is understood the alleged offence happened towards the end of the long period of added on time at the end of the game, caused by an earlier malfunction in the officials’ communication equipment.

It’s understood it was during those moments that the Swans claim Louza spat at their Irish midfielder Ryan Manning. The Welsh side then included their view of the incident in their report on the performance of match referee Tim Robinson, and today the FA released the following statement: “Watford FC’s Imran Louza has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E1.1 following their EFL Championship game against Swansea City FC on Wednesday 5 October 2022.

“It is alleged that the midfielder spat at an opposing player towards the end of this fixture, and he has until Thursday 13 October 2022 to provide a response.”
