'I am interested in the psychology part of everything, the why, why, why, why, why, you know?” –SimoneLovie

Zoe Lister-Jones's remake ofTwo years ago, Lovie Simone was making beauty tutorial videos on. Through a tight shot in a room with bookshelves, she'd instruct on basic makeup and natural hair techniques with a popular R&B song overlaid for sound. At the time of her first video being posted, she'd already been on OWN's hit dramaplaying Zora Greenleaf, the granddaughter of patriarch Bishop James Greenleaf for almost year.

Highly recognizable to fans of the show, it didn't stop the then 18-year-old from having fun on camera by herself or with friends going thrift shopping or enjoying smoothie runs. Fame has had little effect on Lovie's approachability and passion for storytelling.

In the third season of the show, Lovie's sassy, unfiltered character finds herself in an abusive relationship with a gospel superstar. Things go from bad to worse when he hits her at a family function. Lovie contends that Zora's storyline, although jarring, was necessary to dispel the idea that abuse is homogenous.

"When I really knew this is what I'm going to do — not what I want to do — but I'm going to do, my twin sister found these classes online and my family took me to them," Lovie says about initially getting into acting. "They were $6,000 and so we were like, 'Oh, we can't really afford that,' so then I took another class and towards the end of that class is how I found my agent and my manager. And then I've just been going on auditions since.
