The Texans didn’t wait until morning to relieve Lovie Smith of his duties as head coach.
Houston parted ways with Smith after just one season at the helm, the team announced late Sunday night. Smith was the club’s associate head coach and defensive coordinator last season.
Houston, which closed the season with a dramatic 32-31 win over the Colts, went 3-13-1 this year and will have the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft.This was the 64-year-old Smith’s third NFL head coaching job after spending nine seasons with the Bears and two with the Buccaneers compiling a 92-100-1 career record that includes a trip to the Super Bowl.
