In Gee Chun said getting the hole-in-one at the Chevron Championship was 'the best moment...
In Gee Chun, of South Korea, watches her tee shot on the eighth hole during the third round of the Chevron Championship women's golf tournament at The Club at Carlton Woods on Saturday, April 22, 2023, in The Woodlands, Texas. In Gee Chun did not have to witness her hole-in-one to appreciate the moment. The ace on the 17th hole not only allowed her to pick up two shots to par, but a charity is benefiting from a $1 million contribution from Chevron.
“It was amazing, because when I walked to the tee, in my mind, maybe I have a chance to make a hole-in-one,” Chun said. “But I wanted to save it for when we have the chance for the Bentley. “But after I made it, I heard the money, I can help the people, Chevron picked a hole like 17 for donation. It’s more meaningful. It’s the best moment of my life because I am happy to help people.”
Chun did not see the ball disappear into the cup because the hole location was over a mound. She knew it would be close to the pin because she hit the ball the right yardage. It is the sixth hole-in-one for the 28-year-old.Albane Valenzuela had as enduring a day as anyone on the golf course. Before starting her third round at 7 a.m., she had to complete four-plus holes. And she had a late 11:23 a.m. start to the third round.
“It was definitely long,” Valenzuela said. “I haven't had an early start like that in a long time with a few holes to come back to. But overall, I knew it was going to happen. I just stayed patient and really tried to focus one shot at a time, play my game, and have as much fun as possible.”Choi gaining confidence
