Lt.\u002DGov Russ Mirasty invites guests to join at the Saskatchewan Residential School Memorial on Monday afternoon.
“It’s an important day, it’s the day that’s set aside for Canada to reflect on residential school experiences and the impacts of those experiences on individuals and communities, and also to think about those children that weren’t able to get back home.”National Indigenous Peoples DayThe memorial — located on the grounds of Government House — is composed of all-natural elements.
“I recognize that there are lots of questions, there are lots of gaps in the knowledge people have about that part of Canadian history and I think part of my approach is to be able to share some of my own experience, but also just talk about what it means to Canada,” he said. Their Honours will be available to speak about the memorial, hear from those who have been impacted by residential schools, and visit with anyone wishing to join them. Visitors can stay for as long as they want.
