It was a 'gotcha moment' in the killer nurse's trial
Lucy Letby 's notes, which included a chilling admission on a post-it note which read 'I am evil I did this', were reportedly penned following a counsellor's advice before being used to help secure her conviction for the murder of seven infants.
The prosecution leveraged these notes to fortify their case against Letby, concluding their opening statement by spotlighting the phrase: "I am evil I did this." Additionally, in these personal writings, Letby scribbled sentiments like "Not good enough", "Why me? ", "I haven't done anything wrong", "Police investigation slander discrimination victimisation". Doubts over Letby's conviction have been escalating, prompting scrutiny from various professionals regarding its credibility.
"I always thought Letby's notes were meaningless as evidence. If they were written as part of therapy you can underline that point three times and write it in bold and capital letters." The contentious notes were penned sometime between July 2016, after Letby was removed from the ward, and her arrest in July 2018. During this time, she was relieved of her nursing duties following a series of deaths.
In her initial trial, she refuted the claim that the notes were an admission of guilt for harming or killing infants. She explained that De Beger was "someone she was seeing" for support, but it wasn't mentioned in court that writing these notes was a recommended part of her counselling.
