Luka Doncic, Mavericks fall to Kevin Durant, Suns in star-studded showcase
“When you see it from afar, it’s definitely different,” Irving said. “But obviously being out here, the level of play rises, emotions rise. I think we see everybody display that on their facial expressions.”
The Suns fought back from a 111-105 deficit in the final six minutes. Durant gave Phoenix a 128-126 lead with 12.4 seconds left by sinking a 14-footer from the left wing while being double-teamed by Irving and Hardaway.During the three-week Doncic-Irving Era, the Mavs already had lost games by margins of five , three, three and two points. But when Doncic drove to the basket and Phoenix’s Josh Okogie fell backward, Dallas could not have gotten a better opportunity.
Doncic declined to repeat what Booker said, adding “I don’t think you can say that on camera. ... The NBA would fine me.” When told that Booker said he was talking to the referees, Doncic said: “I mean, based on the words I don’t think so.” “You guys [reporters] say you don’t want everybody to be friendly, friendly,” Booker said. “Here you go. We got some smoke.”“Yeah,” Booker said. “It’s just two competitors going at it. Everybody speaks on how friendly the NBA is now and [how they] don’t like that. I have no problem with Luka on or off the court, but when we’re competing, we’re competing.”
