Four-time AFL premiership player and 7AFL commentator Luke Hodge started his weekend playing local footy and ended it in an emergency room. 7NEWS

At least he was, until things “didn’t go to plan”.

“I went down and had seven hours in emergency at Epworth in Richmond, had an operation and got home about 12:30 that night. So, it was a fun Saturday, but I still had a ball.”Hodge’s finger injury ended his day abruptly, but it was almost over before it even started when the 38-year-old twinged his calf in the pre-game.“They did a longer warm-up than what I did in 18 years of AFL football,” he joked.

“As I’ve ran out, I’ve felt a little something in the calf, so I spent the first five minutes of the warm-up out on the ground getting Deep Heat and a thumb through the calf. “Wow what a day yesterday was, cracking weather, biggest crowd Devon Meadows has ever seen, a HUGE thank you to our DM crew who helped out yesterday helping out in the canteen, bars, luncheon, BBQ, and everything in between!” a Facebook post read.
