A luxury houseboat hotel on Sydney's northern beaches has been destroyed in a fire on Sunday afternoon | natassiazc
Emergency services were called to Palm Beach, where the 'Lilypad' houseboat accommodation is docked, at about 2.20pm.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said two people had self-evacuated from the boat when the fire began and were not injured. Four fire engines and two Rural Fire Service boats were at the scene on Sunday, where the initial responding crew members had commandeered private vessels from the wharf to access the houseboat. They travelled towards the houseboat and extinguished the blaze with portable hoses and pumps. The spokesman said the houseboat had been "totally destroyed" but fire did not spread to other vessels. Firefighters also ensured there was no leakage from the houseboat into Pittwater.
Overnight stays at Lilypad start at about $1750 per night. Its Airbnb listing describes it as "a luxurious floating villa for overnight stays and intimate events" in a tranquil location. It typically offers guests catering, an on-board wine cellar, use of a private boat as well as a paddle board and fishing gear.
