A 5.2 temblor was reported along the Calaveras Fault in late October.

. A 6.2 quake was reported in 1984, a 5.4 in 2007 and a 4.1 in 2017.

The strike-slip fault was also the site of an earthquake swarm two years ago, when more than 35 temblors ranging from as high as magnitude 3.5 were recorded over a two-month period. The Calaveras Fault runs roughly from Hollister, near Gilroy, to Danville and beyond, and is linked to the Hayward Fault. The USGS estimates a 7.4 percent likelihood of a magnitude 6.7 or greater earthquake on the Calaveras Fault in the next 30 years.
