'Why Riyad Mahrez was allowed to take it is bizarre.' Danny Murphy hopeful Riyad Mahrez penalty record will end with Erling Haaland arrival MCFC
Danny Murphy has described the decision to let Riyad Mahrez take a penalty against Borussia Dortmund as ‘bizarre’.
Mahrez was tasked with scoring from 12 yards, but had a patchy penalty record to say the least going into the game, with the 31-year-old now failing with 10 out of 32 penalties taken and three out of his last four. “I think that a manager can help to a degree, but he can’t help with the strong mentality and belief when the penalty comes along and the size of the game and that.
“Why Mahrez was allowed to take it is bizarre. He’s missed three out of four now and they’ve got enough good-quality players on the pitch for someone to say ‘no chance are you taking it’.
