Brendan Rodgers is facing an injury crisis in his backline with just two fit centre-backs currently on the books in the shape of new signing Gustaf Lagerbielke and fringe man Liam Scales.
Celtic face a major defensive headache with Maik Nawrocki set to join Cameron Carter-Vickers in being RULED OUT of the first Old Firm of the season, according to a report.
Stephen Welsh - fresh from penning a new long-term contract with the Scottish champions - suffered a training ground injury and will now face an extended period out injured leaving Rodgers with just new signing Gustaf Lagerbielke and fringe man Liam Scales as the fit first-team defenders at the club. Tomoki Iwata has proved last season he can operate in that area of the pitch but the injuries will come as a big concern to the returning Hoops boss.
The outcome of the injuries may well force Rodgers into the market in the final week of the window for added cover as he also seeks to add further quality reinforcements ahead of the Hoops' bid to make a splash in the Champions League.
