A multi-billion-dollar funding package will overhaul Medicare, as part of the Prime Minister's effort to increase access to primary health care and 'take the pressure off public hospitals'.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese promised $2.2 billion from the federal budget would be allocated to improving Medicare and increasing access to primary health care for all Australians.

Picture: NCA NewsWire / John Gass “One of the things that we need to do is to improve primary care delivery so that it takes pressure off our public hospital systems around the country,” Mr Albanese said. Pharmacists will be given the capacity to provide safe on-the-spot vaccinations for patients, along with GPs given annual payment boosts or other monetary incentives to stay open longer.
Health Minister Mark Butler said the new policies would be enormously beneficial in the coming times.
