One of the largest U.S. franchisees of Burger King fast-food restaurants has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Akron, citing revenue declines worsened by the pandemic as well as recent inflation and worker shortages.

Though based in suburban Chicago, Toms King LLC, its Toms King LLC and Toms King LLC subsidiaries, and four other affiliates filed their bankruptcy petitions in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Ohio. According to bankruptcy court filings, Toms King, which operates 90 Burger King restaurants in Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Virginia, says it has between 200 and 999 creditors, $10 million and $50 million in assets, and $50 million and $100 million in liabilities.
