Police, fire and the ambulance service all attended the scene
Merseyside Police were called to Stanley Street in the city centre just after 2am on Wednesday, September 13. It followed reports of a concern for safety of a woman.
A number of cordons were in place, including on Dale Street, causing the main city centre road to be closed for more than five hours. The cordon was lifted at around 7.30am but one remained on Stanley Street.There was a large emergency services presence at the scene, including police, fire and ambulance crews. A spokesperson for the force said specialist police negotiators were talking to the woman.
Police officers were seen carrying helmets and shields and appeared to be focusing their attention on one of the buildings on Stanley Street. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics were in attendance at the scene as a precautionary measure, police said. A number of roads in the area were closed while officers negotiated with the woman and diversions were in place. Police said the road closures caused significant disruption for those coming into the city this morning and warned people to plan their journey and try to leave earlier if they were coming in to the city.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police previously said: "Officers would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding while this incident is ongoing."
