‘Major crash’ closes Parramatta Road in Sydney’s inner west after police pursuit terminated | sallyrawsthorne
Five minutes after police terminated a car pursuit of a man, he allegedly collided with five other vehicles - landing himself and two others in hospital, and closing Parramatta Road in both directions early on Saturday morning.
“Just after 6.20am, Traffic and Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a Subaru Outback on Parramatta Road, Leichhardt,” NSW Police said in a statement.Sarah McPhee “The Subaru failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated before being terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.”“Police responded and assisted the occupants of the vehicles. They were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, with two people taken to hospital.”Sarah McPhee
The Subaru driver has been arrested and is under police guard in St George Hospital with minor injuriesPolice have established a crime scene, and Parramatta Road remains closed in both directions between Liverpool Road and Flood St. Citybound motorists are being diverted into Sloane Street at Summer Hill, while Westbound motorists are being diverted via West Street at Lewisham, the Transport Management Centre said on Saturday morning.Route 461, 480 and 483 buses are also diverting away from the scene and missing stops along Parramatta Road.
